Halloween Disco

Last night was our Halloween Disco at Options Social Club. We had been planning it with Joe and making decorations for it for over a month. It was great to see the centre once we had finished decorating it, it looked really scary. We turned the conservatory into Frankenstein's laboratory and hung our ghosts and spiders from the ceiling in the foster room where the disco took place.

We had prizes for best fancy dress costume which Danielle Clothier won, and a prize for the best dancer which Stacey Millie won. Everyone had a brilliant night and really enjoyed it.

Gardening Lunch Club

Today we went to the first monthly Gardening Lunch Club at Woodham Community Centre where we met people from the community centre who are interested in using the garden at the Pioneering Care Centre. We walked there, had a chat and enjoyed our lunch, then got the bus back.

Getting to know Jess

Today we met Jess, the new social care student who is going to be on placement with us for the next 8 weeks on a Thursday. We all introduced ourselves and did a getting to know you activity so we could find out more about each other.

Gardening

Today some of us went out into the garden for the start of the Grow Your Community gardening project. Howard who runs the project told us what we would be doing over the next couple of months including decorating the garden beds, pruning the shrubs and re-planting the onions and broad beans into the beds. Today we were pruning and shaping the shrubs around the garden.

Great North Run Cheque Presentation

Tonight Chris Wright and his friend Jerry who ran the Great North Run for us in September, came in to visit us during Social Club to present us with a cheque for the money they had raised for Options. The total amount raised was an amazing £529! We were all thrilled to meet them and thank them for their generous fund raising and hope to see them again soon.

Poetry

Today we wrote up our trip to Middlesbrough last week. It was World Poetry Day the day we went so we decided to write up our trip in the form of a poem...

We went to Middlesbrough on the train
The weather was great and it didn't rain
Today was World Poetry Day
The train driver had a lot to say
As we arrived at Darlington
We looked around the train station
The train pulled into Allens West
The driver said pick up your things it's for the best
We finally arrived at Boro
Where we bumped into a terror
It made us gulp
It looked like a werewolf
But it was just Linda in the mirror
We had our dinner at the caf
We ate our food and had a good laugh
Then we went shopping until we were dropping
And needed to relax in the bath

Planet Leisure Trip & Cobblers Hall

Today we went to Planet Leisure for a game of bowling. We got the bus from Burn Hill Garage to the town centre, then another bus from the town centre to Planet Leisure. We had 3 lanes in the bowling alley and Brian Heels, Danielle Clothier and Shaun New were the winners of each team. Everyone had a great time. After the bowling we got the bus back to Cobblers Hall where we all had our lunch.

Middlesbrough Trip

Yesterday we went to Middlesbrough on the train. We got the train from Newton Aycliffe direct to Middlesbrough. We had a look around the shops and went to a cafĂ© for our lunch. It was World Poetry Day too and on the way there, the train driver was saying a short rhyme over the tannoy for the name of every station we stopped at.

Karaoke Night at Social Club

Tonight was Karaoke Night at Options Social Club. We had the projector and big screen set up in the Foster room where people could pick a song to sing in front of everyone. There was a lot of dancing going on too and everyone had a great night!
